Rationale for the Amendment

When the original bylaws were established, the CAHL league did not tier the U9 level. With CAHL now implementing tiering at U9, it is a natural progression to group players accordingly and form tiered teams. This approach promotes balanced team composition and ensures more appropriate levels of competition in both games and tournaments.
At the U7 level, player registration numbers have continued to grow, creating opportunities to form a variety of team structures. The Board intends to review these numbers annually and make decisions that best serve the overall group. While parent feedback will remain an important part of this process, it is essential that the Board retains the ability to establish a policy framework to guide these decisions year to year. Forming teams with consideration of skill level—such as distinguishing between first-year and more experienced players—has proven highly beneficial. Combining U7 players into unified, skill-appropriate teams supports stronger player development and enhances the overall experience for families. Grouping players by similar ability levels allows coaches to design more effective and engaging practices, while also fostering early connections among players and families across communities. These relationships contribute to smoother team integration and a more positive hockey experience in future seasons.

OUR STORY

3 Communities Coming Together

For several years, there has been a consistent decrease with the number of minor hockey players in our area. While numbers fluctuate in various age groups, the trend is that most of the older groups do not have enough players to sustain a team within any of the individual communities. By combining the players from all 3 communities, we are able to grow the game that we love and create a positive hockey experience. West 39 Hockey will provide opportunity to all players, coaches and referees within our shared community.
